When I was a little kid, I never dreamed of becoming a professional organizer. I didn’t have dreams of storage boxes dancing in my head, nor did I dress up in sensible yet professional outfits made with breathable fabrics and in colors that would hide my sweat marks.
So, how did I end up here?
The Desire to Help People
Living in a cluttered environment increases stress and may lead to decreased focus, confusion, and tension.[1] As someone who has experienced this, I can attest to the mental health benefits that decluttering and tidying can bring, and I want to help others feel them, too. It’s amazing what tidying and organizing can do to open up other areas of one’s life.
Flexibility and Autonomy
Ever since my fingers could flip the bird, I aimed them at “the man”, “the system”, whatever you want to call that ambiguous force that crushes your soul with glee, day in and day out. The grind of working both in corporations and in hospitality eventually wore me down. Since then, I’ve gained a much better awareness of burnout and of boundaries around work. Despite this, going back to working a schedule on someone else’s terms feels like the sound of nails scraping a chalkboard or socks rubbing together (does that give anyone else the ick?). Being a professional organizer and entrepreneur allows me to decide when and where I want to work.
